The next “Heidelberg Talks Online” meeting (in English!) takes place on Friday, March 1, 2024, 7 pm – 8.30 pm CET. The topic will be:

Lessons (not) learned from the Bosnian War: The Ahmići massacre as an example

From a microcosm to the big picture – recurring deadly patterns

The speaker will be Thomas Obruča, from 2002 to 2007 special investigator for war crimes at the International War Crimes Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. In 2007, Mr. Obruča joined the International Anti-Corruption Academy based in Austria, and since 2014 he has served as Deputy Head of Department at the Federal Office for Immigration & Asylum, Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior. Between 1999 and 2002 he was sent on two UN missions to Bosnia & Hercegovina. His bookAhmići – The Eight Days of 13-year-old Adnan, an autobiographical novel portraying the horrific experiences of a teenager in the Bosnian War, has been published in German, English and Bosnian.
